I was just recently in Japan and I saw this white dog mascot in all the Soft Bank stores I saw! (A white inflateable dog)

I also saw a DVD for a show about a dog called Kai kun - it looked like a soap opera with Kai kun as the lead! I think that he is he same dog as the Soft Bank dog :) Didn't know that until I saw the video you've posted here

I cannot stop laughing... so much it hurts! I LOVE this!!! Did they actually place them all up the steps? I get one or two "bodies" in my footpaths every day, but that is unreal. I think they like the bodies better all mangled. Reminds them of how tough and stuff they are. Now the cats are doing it with a chipmunk. They make a point with it by placing it in various spots. If it's in the food bowl it means you're really on their poopie list! LOL! Trink & Phin's mom

I don't know about Hokkaido Inu, but another guess is that it could be a Kishu Inu. ...But I'm no expert, so don't take my word on it. Just a possibility.

***At the School Tennis Court***

Two school girls are talking to a coach.

One of the girls: Coach.

(Tennis) Coach: What is it?

One of the girl: We'd like to join this club.

Coach: I see. Then, we will work hard togehter.

Girls smile.

Father (Girls' teacher): Hold your horses!

Girls and coach: Teacher!

Father: Are you sure that you can keep working on this for three years?

One of the girls: Three years.

Coach: It'll be okay. There is no basic fee for three years with White student discount plan (SoftBank's calling plan). You can do it.

Father: That has nothing to do with this at all.

Coach: I'm sorry.

One of the Girls: I'll do it.

The other girl: So will I.

Father: Good for your determination. Then, let's run. Follow me!

Father starts to run and others follow him.

One of the girls: Teacher, you are running too fast. Please slow down for us.

Father: Your young days do not wait for you.

Male voiceover: White student discount plan, free basic fee for three years. SoftBank.

***At the Park***

Aya and her male friend are walking together, and they saw a white dog.

Aya: Ah, dad, this is Masao, my Tada-Tomo.

Masao: Aya always lets me call her for free (with Tada-Tomo calling plan).

Aya: Are you upset, aren't you?

Masao: Of course, we are having a very responsible relationship.

Father: Hey!

Aya and Masao turn around, and there are Aya's father and mother.

Father: That's just a white dog.

Aya: Huh?

The white dog barks.

Aya: Awe.

Father: What were you doing?

Masao: Ah, THIS is your father. How do you do?

Mother: Oh, Aya, you can see only your boyfriend.

Aya: I don't know if that's true.

Mother: Come with me.

Mother drops the leash and walks to young couple.

Mother: I will treat you a good lunch.

Aya: Really?

Masao: But...

Aya: No need to be modest.

Mother takes Aya's hand.

Mother; Let's go.

Three of them start to run and laugh.

Father: Where are you going? Wait for me.

Father starts to run and the white dog follows him.

Father: You, don't follow me!

Male voiceover: Tada-Tomo Banzai, Softbank.

***At the Class reunion***

The guy in a grey suit: Can't believe you are a lawyer now.

The guy in a beige jacket: Never thought that you would be a surgeon.

The guy in a gey suit: But the most of all, never dreamed that Shirato would turn out to be a dog.

Father (Shirato, his family name): Neither did I.

The guy in a beige jacket: I could not tell without being told so."

Miss Saito: But your eyes have not changed a bit.

Father: Saito-san.

Miss Saito: It's true.

Father: Nnnn..

***Flash back of Miss Saito's pic of her school days***

People are leaving the class reunion party.

Miss Saito: Please keep in touch.

The guy in a beige jacket: Free calling because of Tada-Tomo (SoftBanks's calling plan).

The guy in a grey suit: Well, we could not imagine that things would be convenient like this.

The guy in a beige jacket: Not at all.

***At Shirato family's living room***

Mother: How was your reunion?

Father: Ahh...

Aya: Did you enjoy yourself?

Father: Hnnn...

Father appears to be still thinking about Miss Saito.

But I was not sure because this particular one seemed to be a bit too small for Hokkaido and softer facial features than average Hokkaio.
Hokkaido inu (or Hokkaido ken) is one of the Japanese six orignal breeds and from the northan island called Hokkaido. They are also called Ainu inu(or Ainu ken).
Ainu are the native people of Hokkaido, and racially they are different. Because of their fair skin and densed facial hair, for a long time they were believed to be more related to Caucasians than Asians.
However, I heard recent DNA test had denied that.
As Hokkaido inu are categorised as a midium size dog, they usually bigger than Shiba. And they also have more wilder & tougher look and build.
In this video, the owner of the dogs called his male dog "Kai-kun", but he did not refer to the breed of his dog, it was the name of his dog. In Japan, you are supposed to add " kun (for mainly boys)", "chan (for mainly girls and very young boys)", "san (for adults and older girls)", "sama (very polite way of san)" to the names whenever you call someone, just like Mr. and Miss. For example, Yoshi-kun and Tsuki-chan. However, some male bosses of the offices and some male school teachers do not do that to their employees or students and generally speaking, parents do not do that either when they call their children unless they are very polite or extra sweet. Also between very close friends, they do not do that. So I guess this owner is very polite.
Anyway, in this video, they never mentioned the breed of these dogs, but I realize they seemed to have sturdier build than average Shiba, which is one of the physical characteristics of Hokkaido.
Mosdef they are not Kai, not just color but Kai's build is very differrent.
Well, still I am not sure, but this is the link to the pic of white Hokkaido, Hokkaido comes with many different colors, judge for yourself.

also scroll down this thread, you will find the pic of a white Hokkaido, a red Hokkaido pup and a red Shiba with their Polish owner.

http://www.nihonken.org/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=444&page=1

As this red Hokkaido is still a pup, his/her size is almost same as the red Shiba, but you can tell the build, head shape and facial features are subtly different. I think Hokkaido has more feral look.

BTW this video is about the two dogs play the roll of father, which is maily played by Kai-kun, but ocasionally his sister, Nene-chan steps in for the scenes like climbing stairs because Kai-kun is afraid of hight.

The song you hear on the background.

Iihi Tabidachi (Taking off on a fine day)

I look up the sky of the north where snow will melt soon
As I call out for the dreams from the days have passed away
faces of people who I will never see again come to my mind
So today I will be on the road by myself
Somewhere in Japan, someone special is waiting for me
Taking off on a fine day to look for a red sunset
with the song that I heard on my mother's back as my only one company

On the tip of the cape, a boy is fishing
Will he take the pass with tall green grasses when he goes home
In order to make a memory
I will write "Goodby" on the beach sand with a wood stick
Somewhere in Japan, someone special is waiting for me
Taiking off on a fine day to look for a cloud shaped like a sheep
With the song that my father taught me as my only one company

Somewhere in Japan, someone special is waiting for me
Taiking off on a fine day to look for my happiness
With the song that I sang in my childhood as my only one company

You did the great research!!

"Father Travels" has the longer version(60sec.).
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxnsYZ_oFvc&feature=related

***At the Sunami Station***
Father(Cream Shiba) is coming out of the small countryside station.

***On the steps of alleys***
Father is running up and down on stone steps of very narrow alleys.

Father's voice over: I'm sure I will come across Tada-Tomo that I have not seen yet.
(Tada-Tomo is the WhiteBanks' calling plan that members of it can call each others for free. Tada means free and Tomo is the abbreviation of Tomodachi which means a friend)

***Jodo-ji Temple***
Father runs through a flock of pigeons.

***In the middle of rice paddy***
Father is sitting at the bus stop with a cute school girl.
Father is walking in the rain.

***At the small harbor***
Father is getting on a boat.

***At the very traditional Japanese inn(Ryokan)***
Father is looking down at a scenery from the window as the maid is serving a tea.
A woman who wears Yukata and Haori coat is walking on a courtyard.

***At the beach***
A woman, who turns out to be young and pretty, is making a call from the beach.
Father gets a call and probably he thinks it is from that woman.

Mother: Where are you roaming around?

Father: I'm sorry.

***At the Rotenburo***
Father is walking by the Rotenburo.
(Rotenburo is the outside hot spring or hot tub.
This particular one seems to have a ceiling but no wall. As Japanese usually baths in nude, Rotenburo is surrounded by view blocking fences)
Father is coming out of the female section of the hot spring.
Father: I made a mistake.

Male voiceover: Free calling among family members for 24 hours, SoftBank.

Sunami Station is in Mihara city of Hiroshima prefecture and Jodoji temple is in Onomichi city of Hiroshima prefecture, also.
Other locations are unknown.
However, most likely this film was shot around these two cities as they are located side by side.
Onomichi is well known as the city with a very pretty senaery.
Old parents from "Tokyo Story",which is regarded as one of the best movies ever made, resided in this city.
